Cortlant Rotary supports the youth of our community through sponsorship of the Interact Club at Lakeview High School.
 
Rotary's World Interact Week




Our Cortland Rotary Club sponsors an Interact Club at Lakeview High School. This year's Lakeview Interact Club President is Katie Derr, the daughter of Rotarian and Past Club President, Renee Derr.

Rotarian, Bob Wilson, is our Club's Interact Adviser and arrangements are being made to have at least two Lakeview Interact Club members attend our weekly Club Meetings in the weeks ahead.

Aside from their own and activities, the Lakeview Interact Club members have been very helpful and supportive in a variety of our annual Club events and activities, such as the recent Fall Rotary Park Clean-up Day and our Make a Difference Day events, Poorest of the Poor Clothing Drive and Feed the Hungry Food & Donation Drive for Cortland Area Cares on October 23.

Cortland Rotary is proud to support the youth of our community through its sponsorship of a local Rotary Interact Club, to foster the ideals of Rotary through its motto of "Service above Self" and recognize their efforts during World Interact Week.

Interact is Rotary International's service club for young people, ages 12 to 18. Interact clubs are sponsored by individual Rotary clubs, which provide support and guidance, but they are self-governing and self-supporting.

Club membership varies greatly. Clubs can be single gender or mixed, large or small. They can draw from the student body of a single school or from two or more schools in the same community.

Each year, Interact clubs complete at least two community service projects, one of which furthers international understanding and goodwill.

Through these efforts, Interactors develop a network of friendships with local and overseas clubs and learn the importance of:
  • Developing leadership skills and personal integrity
  • Demonstrating helpfulness and respect for others
  • Understanding the value of individual responsibility and hard work
  • Advancing international understanding and goodwill
As one of the most significant and fastest-growing programs of Rotary service, with more than 10,700 clubs in 109 countries and geographical areas, Interact has become a worldwide phenomenon. Almost 200,000 young people are involved in Interact.
