Cortland Rotary Recognizes Debbie and Harry King
The Rotary Club of Cortland presented Debbie and Harry King of Cortland Area Cares with it's "Outstanding Community Service Award" at the CAC Community Fundraiser, during half time ceremonies at the Harlem Ambassadors Exhibitional Basketball Game and Show with the Mosquito Lakers!

Along with the Mayor of Cortland, Curt Moll, who presented Debbie and Harry King with a Proclamation, naming October 29 as "Cortland Area Cares Day," the Rotary Club of Cortland presented the King's with its "Outstanding Community Service Award" at the recent Harlem Ambassadors Exhibition Basketball Game before nearly 800 Cortland and Bazetta residents attending the CAC Community Fundraiser.
This recognition, well earned by the Kings for their voluntary humanitarian efforts in overseeing and managing the Cortland Area Cares food pantry, read as follows:

Your more than 20 years of dedicated humanitarian service through the Cortland Area Cares Food Pantry, which is currently providing food and personal care items of need to over 450 needy individuals within our community.
Your sincere and unselfish volunteer efforts serve as a true model of community service that emulates the motto of Rotary International, "Service Above Self," and we applaud you for your persistent efforts.

Whether some wish to believe it or not, accept it or not, we have a growing issue of hunger within our community that has been, until the Cortland Area Cares Community Fundraiser, an issue of "daily concern" for Debbie and Harry King of Cortland Area Cares and those most closely associated with its efforts. With increasing challenges and growing numbers of needy people, they have attempted to make ends meet month-by-month and some times day-by-day to address this issue, with little awareness on the part of most in our community.
Not because they didn't or don't care, as was proven by all involved in the Cortland Area Cares Community Fundraiser and the nearly 800 people in attendance at the Harlem Ambassadors Exhibition Basketball Game and Show on October 29, but because they simply were not aware of this growing problem within our community.
The Rotary Club of Cortland pledges its continued support of Cortland Area Cares in its effort to address the issue of hunger amongst the growing number of needy individuals and families within our community.
