May - Designated as Cortland Rotary Month
On April 24, 2007 the Mayor of Cortland, Curt Moll, presented our Club with a Proclamation to officially designate May as Cortland Rotary Month within the City of Cortland and recognize our Club's efforts within our community. This followed the Board of Directors efforts to place special emphasis on our Club's efforts to initiate planning for the upcoming Rotary Year beginning on July 1, 2011.
Aside from May being the time of year that spring is finally in full swing, marking the end of winter with new color and growth all around us and we begin looking forward to the approaching months of summer. May is also the time of the year the Rotary Club of Cortland begins winding down its activities and projects of the current Rotary year and begins focusing on the events and activities of the approaching Rotary year!
In consideration of this being a time of transition and bringing focus on the accomplishments of the past year, as well as a time to begin focusing on our events and activities of the approaching year ahead, then President Renee Derr and the Board of Directors of the Rotary Club of Cortland sought to place special emphisis on the month and designated May as Cortland Rotary Month.
May is the time of the year all Rotarians in Cortland Rotary are encouraged to renew their personal commitments to the efforts of our Club in addressing the needs of our community and the world around us, as the current Rotary Year begins to wind down and plans begin to take shape for the New Rotary year beginning on July 1.
The current Rotary year officially ends on June 30 when President Dennis Nisbett will hand over the leadership of Cortland Rotary to our incoming President, Dick Cleal, to begin a new cycle in addressing the needs of our community and its responsibilities to Rotary International.
In further recognition of our Club's efforts within the community, special recognition was given by Mayor Curt Moll, who has officially designated May as Cortland Rotary Month with the presentation of the following Proclamation to the Club on April 24, 2007:
