The Cortland Area Cares Community Fundraiser was a great success in many ways for our community, Thanks to the efforts of all those involved!
Cortland Area Cares Community Fundraiser - A Success In Many Ways!
Over the past nine months many played a roll in bringing our community together for a special evening of family entertainment with the Harlem Ambassadors and our own Mosquito Lakers and for one special underlying reason... to demonstrate how one community can make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate than ourselves and show that our community truly does care!
There were several purposes achieved through this community-wide effort and all those involved in helping make the Cortland Area Cares Community Fundraiser a success should take pride in whatever role they played in its outcome. Especially the 19 dedicated members of the CAC Fundraiser Committee and the organizations they represented -- the 4 Community Service Organizations and their members of the Rotary, Optimist, Kiwanis, Lions Clubs; the 8 member Churches and their congregations of the Lakeview Outreach and Fellowship; the 4 Schools and their administrators, support staff, teachers, and students; the 21 members of the Mosquito Lakers Team formed especially for this event; the 5 Quarter Sponsors, 21 Player Sponsors and 13 Event Sponsors who financially supported this event; and finally, the nearly 800 spectators from our community who attended the Harlem Ambassadors Exhibition Basketball Game and Show.
It is being said that this may very well have been the single largest effort ever undertaken and supported by our community for a single purpose or organization, which turned out to be more than just a fund raising effort for a good cause.
Through the efforts of all involved, this effort was able to achieve the following goals:
- An increased community awareness of the growing issue of hunger within our community.
- An increased community awareness of Cortland Area Cares' efforts and role as the primary food pantry for needy people within our community.
- The bringing together of our community's faith-based and secular organizations for a united purpose that demonstrated and defined the true meaning of community.
- The bringing together of our community for an evening of family entertainment and fellowship that demonstrated our community does care for the needy and less fortunate within our community.
- It was an exemplary demonstration to our youth and our community on how people can and should come together to make a difference in addressing the issues and needs of our community and its people.
- It recognized the dedicated humanitarian community efforts of Debbie and Harry King, as the administrators of Cortland Area Cares food pantry.
- It provided enough financial assistance through a single effort that would nearly meet the annual food budget needs for Cortland Area Cares in its efforts to address the issue of hunger within our community.
The outcome of this effort could have far-reaching positive effects on our community in many ways we have not yet realized and we trust that all would agree with this.
It is hoped that this effort will continue as an annual community fundraiser for Cortland Area Cares, which has struggled more and more in recent years to meet the growing hunger needs of those without sufficient resources and food to feed themselves or their families. Toward that end, there has been discussion amongst several involved in this effort to have a Wrap-up Meeting and Dinner for those involved in organizing this effort to review what has been achieved and how we might continue the spirit of an effort like this, while it is still a fresh experience in everyone's mind. Your input on this would be most appreciated and either I, or someone else, will be in touch with you about further details as they develop.
The CAC Fundraising Committee would like to thank everyone for the role they played in making this effort as successful as it was! Many have already said that seeing the expression on Debbie King's face when she was presented with the event check for $7,000, was worth the effort! Once we have a final total, the Committee will advise everyone of the final total, which is now expected to be more than $7,500.
The Committee truly appreciates the role everyone played in making this possible and fully realizes the list of those who helped and supported this effort goes beyond those mentioned above and as well as those businesses that allowed promotional posters and flyers to be placed in their businesses to help promote the effort. This includes the radio and news media for their assistance in the use of the new releases and promotional information sent to them and especially our hometown community newspaper, The Cortland News, who covered and promoted this effort extensively.
With our sincere appreciation, the Committee wishes to thank our community for the role everyone played in the success of the Cortland Area Cares Community Fundraiser.
