CAC Community Fundraiser - Final Tally!
CAC Community Fundraiser Exceeds Expectations!
The members of the CAC Community Fundraiser Committee met for a final Wrap-Up Meeting with the representatives of the Supporting Organizations at Candlelight Knolls Banquet Facility on Monday, November 19.
The primary purpose of the Meeting was to present Debbie and Harry King of Cortland Area Cares with the final check for the total proceeds raised from the community-wide fundraiser that brought the internationally-acclaimed Harlem Ambassadors to the Lakeview High School Basketball Gymnasium to play against our hometown Mosquito Lakers.
The final community contribution significantly exceeded all expectations as the final tally reached $8,705 and represented more than two-thirds of CAC annual budget for this year to address the hunger needs of our community.
Although all could not attend, the Committee and Representatives of the Rotary Club of Cortland, the Optimist Club of Bazetta-Cortland, the Kiwanis Club of Cortland, the Lions Club of Cortland, the Lakeview Outreach and Fellowship, and the Lakeview School System met to once again recognize the humanitarian efforts of Debbie and Harry King, as well as share their perspective on this effort.
John Billock, Chairman of the Fundraiser Committee encouraged all the Organizations to continue in their commitment to CAC by recommending that a member of each organization nominate a representative to sit on CAC's Fund-raising Committee to help with establishing an annual community fundraiser.
Jim Duff, President of Cortland Rotary, reflected that he was awestruck when entering the LHS Gymnasium and saw a nearly packed house in attendance to support the Fundraiser and share an evening together. He also indicated that Cortland Rotary was in it 100% for next years effort.
Mike Mills, representing the Bazetta-Cortland Optimist, indicated the their Club has already talked of forming a special committee to help with the organization and promotion of next years effort. He further indicated that we need to brake down barriers and come together more often to address the needs of our community, especially in these difficult economic times.
Harvey Feenstra, President of Cortland Kiwanis, indicated that this was a wonderful opportunity to meet other service Club members and come together as a community for a common purpose. He also indicated that is was the first time he truly felt as if he was part of a community and, for him, this is what it was all about.
Debbie and Harry King closed the Meeting with an expression of their sincere gratitude to all those in attendance and especially all those in the community that supported this effort to aid the growing number of needy individuals and families within our community. They vowed to continue their diligent efforts to assure that every dollar raised will go directly to that purpose!
